CHOOSING THE RIGHT CHARLESTON AREA

Choosing where to live in Charleston can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re looking at a map from out of state. Each area has its own lifestyle, conveniences, commute, price point, and personality, and the right choice really comes down to what matters most in your everyday life.

The number one thing I recommend considering is where you’ll be working. Charleston traffic, bridges, and waterways can make a short distance on a map feel much longer during certain times of the day, so living as close to work as your lifestyle and budget allow can make a huge difference.

If you have children, take time to research the schools throughout the Charleston area and determine which options work best for your family. From there, think about the two or three things you want to be most convenient to. Is it the beach? Downtown? Restaurants? Shopping? Boating? The airport? Family? Your daily routine should play a major role in where you choose to live.

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. I’m always happy to talk through the different areas, answer questions, and help you narrow down where to start your search. Give me a call anytime at 980.521.3067.

YOUR VISIT TO CHARLESTON

If you’re able to visit Charleston before making your move, I highly recommend staying in the area or neighborhood you’re most interested in living in. There’s more than likely a hotel, Airbnb, or vacation rental nearby, and actually staying there can tell you so much more than simply driving through for a showing.

LIVE LIKE YOU ALREADY LIVE HERE

Use your visit as a test run of everyday life. Drive the route to your potential job during morning or afternoon traffic. Make a grocery run. Stop for gas. Grab coffee nearby. Go out to dinner. See how convenient the things you use every week actually are.

TEST THE CHARLESTON LIFESTYLE

Spend some time doing the things you picture yourself enjoying once you live here. Drive to the beach, head downtown for dinner, explore nearby parks and restaurants, or plan a fun weekend activity. Pay attention to how long those trips actually take from the neighborhood you’re considering.

EXPLORE AT DIFFERENT TIMES

A neighborhood can feel completely different at 9 AM than it does at 5 PM or on a Saturday afternoon. Drive around at different times of the day so you can experience the traffic, activity, and overall feel before deciding whether an area is right for you.

TOUR HOMES WHILE YOU’RE HERE

Let me know when you’re planning your Charleston visit and I can arrange showings in the areas you’re considering. Seeing the homes and experiencing everyday life in the neighborhood is one of the best ways to narrow down where you can truly picture yourself living.
